2011 marks the 400th birthday/anniversary of the King James Version of the English Bible. I will not hesitate to agree with many that this is the greatest of the English translations; the combination of it’s accuracy and literary style go unmatched as far as I’m concerned. I think this is why I found it such an easy transition when I began using the English Standard Version. The ESV translators saw themselves following after the rich tradition of the KJV both in translation and style. It reads like the Bible I grew up with. Recently, Leland Ryken was interviewed on an episode of the Reformed Cast podcast regarding his book The Legacy of the King James Bible: Celebrating 400 Years of the Most Influential English Translation.
